LADY GNARBO x NBCF

Story

This October Lady Gnarbo is painting the hill pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness! We will be donating 50% of proceeds from all pink market bunches sold thoughout the entire month to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help fund research into the prevention and cure of  which now sadly affects the lives of one in eight Australian women. We are also taking personal and corporate donations instore as well as online via this very page!

As many of you may know our floral atelier launched in March of this year. Prior to its doors opening a number of people had already expressed enthusiasm over their ‘new local florist’. One of those people was Jenny. I remember the first time Jenny visited the store. Instantly she oozed warmth and familiarity. It was evident she was one of those ‘special kind of people’, capable and determined to be the best possible wife, mother, daughter and friend she could be.

One afternoon during one of Jenny’s many visits to the store she noticed me arranging a bouquet of flowers. She asked what the occasion was and I mentioned they were a gift for a teacher at my nieces high school who was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

A few days later Jenny returned to share some news with me. She confined that following our last conversation she had checked her breasts for the first time and discovered a large lump. She had undergone all necessary examinations and it had been confirmed - she too had breast cancer at stage three.

Jenny has since been receiving treatment and is doing well. For months however we have chatted, revisited and replayed the same scenario – what if she had come by the store an hour later and 'that bouquet' had already been delivered? We would not have gotten chatting and her lump could have potentially gone unnoticed for quite some time still.

Like many facing similar challenges, Jen has practised faith, resilience and gratitude throughout her cancer journey so far. She maintains the same radiance and zest for life that she had the very first time she visited the store. I am proud to call her a friend and hope that you can join our humble, little campaign that could potentially better the lives of so many. However great or small, your support is appreciated and bound to make a difference.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is the only national body that funds life-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public.
